Chestnut Biopolymers delivers a formulated biodegradable plant based plastic product in pellet form, blending existing biopolymers already produced at scale and using existing UK infrastructure for contract manufacturing. Our customer approved formulations deliver a product which is a drop-in material for existing manufacturing processes of injection moulding, sheet extrusion and 3D printer filament production requiring no capital investment from our customers to adopt our material. This unique product enables both Chestnut Biopolymers and our customers to scale up quickly once a formulation is approved for a particular customer requirement. We work with market leaders to scale.
To date we have achieved TRL9 in a range of Biopolymer blends that match the mechanical properties of Polypropylene.
We provide a formulation and testing service to our customers to match the specific requirements for their particular plastic product in the PP and PE range of polymers. We then work with our supply chain to scale production of the finished formulation to the clients required volume.
We can also support injection moulding and sheet extrusion of finished products form within our supply chain partners should this service be required.
All finished products can then be accredited as biodegradable in soil via test measures ISO 17556 and to ISO 23517 standard.
Chestnut Biopolymers contain a minimum 90% up to 98% plant derived content removing most fossil feedstocks from our finished bioplastic.
The material biodegrades entirely in the natural environment leaving zero micro or nano plastics, only biomass, water and CO2. The CO2 released during biodegradation in taken up by the annually grown sugar feedstock plants that produce the biopolymers we use in our blends.
In every waste stream our material enters, the result is an improved environmental outcome when measured against fossil plastics.
Customers are targeted in industry verticals where environmental brand and product value intersect.
we charge for formulation development, initial scale up orders and then repeat orders of the signed off material.
